Welcome Students and Parents to Our Classroom!

Grading Policy

Grading Breakdown

Final Exam - 35%
Tests/Quizzes - 35%
Homework - 25%
Projects - 5%

Homework

Homework will be assigned Monday through Friday. Homework should take about 1 ½ to 2 hours daily. Homework will usually be due the following day unless stated otherwise. Incomplete homework will not receive any credit until it is completed correctly. Students will be given an extra day to correct incomplete homework assignments. Missing homework will not be accepted without a valid note from a parent or guardian. Occasionally homework will not be given on the weekends, for catching up on missing or incomplete work. Students are expected to make up assignments missed due to absence. Missing assignments result in a zero if not turned in by the beginning of the following week.

No Name, No Credit - Homework and class work that is submitted without a name will NOT receive credit.

Tests/Quizzes

Dates for upcoming tests and quizzes will be announced 2 to 3 days before the test or quiz. Pop quizzes will take place unannounced.

Projects

Students will be assigned a project for each subject. Enough time will be given to complete and submit the projects. Students must follow the project guidelines. Projects that are incomplete will not receive proper credit.

Reading Log

Every student will be required to read at least 30 minutes every night outside of school. Each child is provided with a Reading Log. In the reading log you will find a sheet where students will keep track of the books they are reading. Also there is a place to record the amount of time read, and a place for an adult to sign, showing that the reading has occurred. The students can choose a place comfortable for them. The point of this routine is to encourage reading, so I encourage you to make this as pleasant as possible at home. There are many books available in our classroom library, as well as our school library, which we will be visiting as a class every week starting in October. Reading logs will be collected at the beginning of each week and recorded for a grade.

At the end of the quarter, homework assignments, classroom assignments, quizzes, project scores, and test scores will be averaged into the students’ grades. Quality of students' oral answers in class, extra credit work, and participation in class are also taken into consideration in finalizing grades at the end of the quarter.

Extra Credit Opportunities

Extra credit homework and projects will be given occasionally to help students boost their grades on a test or project.

Attendance Policy

Students who are absent from school must bring a note the following day stating the reason.

Classroom Management

Positive Reinforcement - As a homeroom, students will also be earning “Good Behavior” passes based on positive behaviors in and out of the classroom. These passes can be earned based on polite and helpful gestures to their classmates, cooperative team building, thoughtfulness, and putting forth their best effort in the classroom. These passes will allow students to participate in a free activity of their choice.
